Hey there,👋 I hope this post finds you all thriving and doing what you love! I have always wanted to write about my incredible mid-career transition journey, and boy, has it been an exhilarating ride! 🎢
So, picture this: I spent nine long years in the fast-paced world of investment banking. Balancing spreadsheets and dealing with numbers became second nature to me. For almost a decade, I found myself immersed in the fast-paced universe of investment banking. I won’t lie; it was thrilling, challenging, and rewarding – but something felt amiss. Don’t get me wrong; finance was rewarding, but my heart longed for something more fulfilling – something that involved connecting with individuals on a personal level. But life had other plans for me, and it came in the form of the notorious Covid-19! ðŸ¦
Suddenly, the work-from-home era turned into a recipe for burnout, and let’s not even talk about juggling parenthood amidst Zoom calls. Exhausted and questioning my priorities, I craved for a deeper connection, a way to make a lasting impact on lives beyond just transactions and profits. So, I decided to explore the path of career counselling, and that’s where the real adventure began 💼
I met my career counselor, Bhumika and let me tell you, she was nothing short of a magical person who showed me the true power of self-discovery. She had this uncanny ability to decipher my tangled thoughts and turn them into a clear roadmap for my future. Through personalized counselling sessions, I unveiled the hidden passions and skills that were eager to be unleashed. It felt like a light bulb moment – a chance to blend my career expertise with my innate desire to uplift others professionally and personally. And so, my journey into the world of career counselling began!ðŸŒ
The decision of quitting my set career wasn’t easy at all and it definitely involved sleepless nights filled with doubts about financial stability and independence etc. Many were completely against the idea of this and even try to talk me out of it. But guess what? With the support of my husband, my lovely little one, family and friends and a little pep talk in front of the mirror (yes, I do that!), I took the plunge! 💪
But you know what? As an Indian mom, questioning your life choices is pretty much in our DNA and I had my fair share of self-doubts. Should I really leave a well-settled career to become a career counsellor? What if do not succeed in my career counselling profession? and not to forget the elephant in the room – the absence of a steady salary etc.🙅
I even faced challenges like cultivating good habits (old habits die harder with age!!), getting back to books and e-learning, making time for my new found passions and getting into a slow paced environment from a high paced one! Believe me, convincing yourself to hit the gym when you’ve got “OTT binge watching and chill” tattooed on your soul isn’t easy especially after quitting! 😂
But with perseverance, discovering new passions, working on my to do lists before I die, exercising regularly, finding my supportive inner circle and the occasional pep talk from my counsellor (she’s got a knack for soothing talks!), I conquered those self-doubts and rocked my career counselling course!🚀
Fast forward I’m thrilled to share that I completed the course with flying colours! But it didn’t end there – my relentless determination to navigate in this new profession led me to secure an internship with an amazing career counsellor- Jyoti Mam, a mentor who has been my guiding star in this new domain. Each day, I learn invaluable lessons on active listening, tailoring solutions and fostering resilience in those navigating the complexities of career transitions. Together, we’re transforming lives, one step at a time. 🌟
As I stand at this crossroads, looking back on my journey whether you’re a seasoned professional, a dedicated homemaker, or an aspiring entrepreneur, a mid-career change is not just a dream – it’s a reality waiting for you to seize! 🌈
